Where do Stem Cells come from?

Before the appearance of the rudiments of the spinal cord, the future human being is but a mass of pluripotent cells -- cells that can differentiate to any cell type of the body. This mass of cells is the source of stem cells used for research. The big ethical question is: Is this mass of cells already qualify to be called a human person?
